Selecting The Correct Weight Distribution Hitch For a 2024 Keystone Hideout Sport 175BH
Published 04/18/2024 >
Question:
I am looking for a WDH to fit a 2024 Honda Ridgeline and a 2024 Keystone Hideout Sport 175BH travel trailer. The empty weight of the travel trailer is 2980 lbs and the GVWR is 4345 lbs. The Ridgeline has a max towing capacity of 5,000 lbs. I expect to only use about 1/2 of the max payload capacity of the trailer so I will probably be pulling around 3,600 lbs. I think this is the right hitch for me Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution w Sway Control # RE34FR I have questions about how this should be mounted as my trailer has extra support brackets on the frame beneath the battery tray. I'm not sure how to send you a photo of this.

I see what you mean with the additional support bracket below the frame on your 2024 Keystone Hideout Sport 175BH travel trailer. I'm glad you reached out to us Peter as that is going to limit you on what you can use. With that additional component it does not look like you are going to be able to use the Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution # RE34FR you found. You can verify this by measuring back and seeing if there is room for the frame brackets to sit 24-1/2" to 27-1/2" behind the ball center of the coupler on the frame rail. I'm thinking you are going to need to use the Strait-Line Weight Distribution System # RP66083 which you can see uses a hang around bracket rather than a full clamp around bracket. This is one of the few systems with integrated sway control and doesn't use a separate sway bar that would work with your style frame. While the total weight capacity for this system is higher your tongue weight will still fall into the capabilities of the system.

I have measured the distance and the bracket starts at 27.5 inches from the ball center of the coupler. So I think I could mount the bracket at the 27" distance assuming the brackets are about 1" wide. The main frame of the trailer is 4" tall and in this section with the extra support that bracing is 3" bringing the total to 7". If I mount it at the 26.5 or 27" distance will the round bars clear underneath that extra 3" tall section of the bracing? I wasn't sure how far below the frame the round bars will be.
