Can I Back Up w/ a Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution System?

Updated 05/16/2023 | Published 05/15/2023

Question:

I am looking at getting a weight distribution hitch for my 5,000 lb boat+trailer, towing behind a 2008 durango. One concern I have is that where I store it, I need to back it up a driveway at a tight angle and unhitch with my truck at about a 45 degree angle. Is it possible to do this with this or another weight distribution hitch? Or would I need to remove the bars first? Thanks

You will be able to back up with the Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution item # RE34FR set up. It may be a lot easier to remove the springbars from the weight distribution system first but it isn't necessary. You won't have any issues with this system on a 45 degree angle.

The Reese Pro Round Bar Weight Distribution item # RE34FR has a 6,000 lbs maximum capacity and works with trailer's that have a tongue weight between 200 lbs - 600 lbs. A weight distribution system is chosen based off tongue weight which is typically 10%-15% of your trailer's total weight. This would put your 5,000 lbs trailer somewhere between 500 lbs and 750 lbs so I recommend going with the next system up item # RE94FR.

If your boat trailer has a straight tongue you will need the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter item # RP58393 with either of these hitches as it will allow you to properly mount the sway bracket arms.
