Hey Maureen, you'll want to cover water heater vent with a bug screen for sure, but that depends on your specific water heater. For example if you have a flush mounted Suburban 6-gallon water heater vent use the Valterra Bug Screen for Suburban 6-Gallon RV Water Heater Vents - Flush Mount # A10-1323VP.
