Do I Need To Use The Spoiler Support Straps For The Thule OutWay Trunk Bike Rack

Question:
Do you HAVE TO use the plastic spoiler reinforcement strap? The manual states always use the spoiler kit with the reinforcement strap, Yet, lots of videos on youtube that demo the installation on a car with a spoiler do not show the reinforcement strap installation. It also seems like a major pain to have to loosen and retighten the strap every single time you open/close your trunk. See the part where the guy puts his duffle bag in the trunk at 217foot in this video:

We do recommend always using the spoiler support strap for additional stability and safety. Loosening the strap can be done fairly quickly, even quicker once you get the hang of it. From the looks of the spoiler on the back of a 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV you will definitely want to use the spoiler support strap kit that comes with the Thule OutWay Trunk Bike Rack # TH56BV.

Jesse. I just purchased the Thule Outway Bike Rack... and the spoiler straps seem to do nothing for my vehicle. I have a 2021 Subaru Outback Touring, and the rear spoiler appears to be in 2 sections.... the actual door that the hooks grab onto... and then an extension section that really looks to be a solid extension of the vehicle. Can you comment on this? I'm not crazy about having to strap something additional, especially if my vehicle doesn't require it. Does anyone else have experience with this model Outback and the OutWay rack?
