Trailer Wiring Harness For 2021 Volkswagen iD.4
Published 10/06/2023 >
Question:
I have a 2021 VW iD.4 electric vehicle. I had a Curt hitch 2 inch receiver professionally installed, but they declined to do the electrical, stating that splicing/soldering would be required. I thoroughly respect them for not over-extending their skills and messing up my nice car I just bought. My question is: Im an engineer, and fairly skilled with my hands, but what do I need to know before I can install a 4-pin on my car? I know I dont want to over-step where the pros were smart enough not to do so. I suspect the draw on the system 2 amps max? might be enough to mess up the vehicles OEM circuitry which is set up for low-amperage LED lights, after all.... The worst thing would be to overload some light-controller circuit board on the vehicle that would cause an electrical gremlin to move in, for the rest of the vehicles life. I suppose the proper solution is some kind of relay module that goes under the hood by the fuse block. Do you agree? Do you sell something like that? Thanks for your expertise! Your videos explaining products you carry are the best.

The correct trailer wiring harness for your 2021 Volkswagen iD.4 is the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236. This is a splice-in kit, and will not overload your system in any way as its converter is connected to the battery so it doesn't draw from your taillights.
