Installing The Curt T-Connector Trailer Wiring Harness On A 2022 Hyundai Elantra
Published 09/09/2023 >
Question:
Recently purchased a wiring harness for a 22 Elantra. The installation instructions say to ground the red brake light wire. When I do I lose the taillights on the trailer and the car. If I dont ground it nothing seems to want to work correctly. What am I doing wrong?

Expert Reply:
The red wire of the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C46BR would only need to be grounded if your Elantra is a 2-wire system, otherwise you'll leave it alone. If your Elantra's brake and turn signal are on the same light then you have a 2-wire system and would need to ground the red wire. If your brake and turn functions are on separate lights then you have a 3-wire system and would leave the red wire intact.
