Sometimes some of the accessories get a little too close to our vehicle. That's why etrailer designed this seven inch extension for your inch and a quarter hitch. This is gonna install just like any other accessory. We just put it in there. We then line up the hitch pin hole. And once it's lined up, we can put our hitch pin through.
And this hitch pin does not come with it, so you will need to grab one separately if you don't already have one. Now, you can just take your inch and a quarter accessory and install it just like you did before with your hitch. But now, we're just putting it on the extension. And if you do have an anti-rattle bolt like we do on the Hitching Post Pro, it will still fit and thread in just fine. And now this solves our problem.
Now I have plenty of room to go in between my accessory and the trunk, so I can use my vehicle exactly how I did before when this was installed, but just a simple seven inch extension does make a big difference. Some dimensions for you. The distance between the center of each of these holes is seven inches. Then on the hitch receiver side, we have an inch and a half from here to the end. And then over here, we have two inches from the center to the end of our accessory side of the extender.
This is gonna give us an overall length of 10 1/2 inches. One thing to note, whenever we have this in here, we do not want to use this for any towing applications, just because it is gonna cut our hitch capacity in half. So also keep note of that as well to make sure we're not overloading our hitch or our accessory. The accessory itself is going to have a 350 pound gross tongue rating. All the other options that you see on our site are not gonna be for towing and also are gonna cut your capacity in half.
So it's not just the etrailer extender, it's all of them on the site. I think the main thing with this is just getting the right amount of length, and I think seven inches is pretty much perfect for either clearance for your spare tire or just to gain a little bit more access to the back of your vehicle. And that's pretty much it for a look at the etrailer inch and a quarter seven inch hitch extender..

Extender arrived on time. It fit the hitch well with minimal play. I did apply some grease to the insert tang to prevent rust from friction of the two metal parts and to make it easier to slide the extender in and out. My only suggestion is that the cotter pin should come packagers with the extender

It turned out I did not need it with the Thule rack I ordered at the same time.p for my Prius. The hatch opens and closes without the extender. I wish eTrailer had informed me the rack I was buying did not need an extender for my car. That said it’s useful if I want to mount the rack on a friend’s car which needs an extender.
Lost it in the shipping. been hanging out in Detroit for 4 days. Zero updates from USPS. I could have biked down there and picked it up by now.

It does the job. Every time I need to pull something or I have extra cargo to move, the hitch extender makes it easy for me to connect to my trailer hitch.

Seems like the exact part I need
My husband had been looking for one of these hitches for some time and could not find one locally. I tried Amazon and the company could not say when it would be shipped. After more than a week I did a search and found you guys and ordered it expecting it this coming Wednesday. I have been using it as an extention for loads that are longer than the 4ft trailer bed length and it is a big help to in backing up a short tongue trailer.
Well-built, durable, and fits well.

The trailer hitch extender is working great! It is very durable and able to haul my trailer as if it was welded on. It is so easy to remove and put back on.
Working well, used to move the bike rack further away from the trunk of the car.

After a year of use and probably about 75 days of bike transport this extension has been flawless.
This is exactly what we needed for our ebike rack. Our new vehicle came with a factory Reese hitch. However, it was a few inches further under the vehicle than our previous vehicle, just enough that the inside bike was touching the vehicle when loaded on the rack. This was the perfect solution. We received our order in 2 days. We will definitely be ordering from them again.

After 1 year and using the hitch from etrailer multiple times traveling long distances, I can confidently say this hitch works beautifully. Our ebikes weigh 52lbs each and a tongue extension wouldve reduced the tongue weight limit to beyond the recommended limit for our vehicle. 2025 Lexus NX. The Lexus factory installed hitch was obviously designed with something lighter and no need for clearance such as a wheelchair, etc. I highly recommend this hitch.
