Question:

Can you use this down receiver with an extension receiver. I have a large spare tire and I need to clear it in order to attach my trailer.

I do have a solution, but I would not recommend using a hitch extender with the Patriot Hitches Adjustable Drop Hitch Receiver # PH67SR. This receiver won't reduce the capacity of your hitch, but an extender will reduce the capacity by 50%. You're also going to be adding 3 parts to your hitch when you include the ball mount. Doing so will likely give you a lot of unwanted movement and a less than pleasant towing experience.

Instead, I recommend using an extended ball mount like the Hidden Hitch Ball Mount # 80232. This has a 15-3/4" long shank which will likely allow you to clear that spare tire. You can see this in the review video below. It also means you only need the drop hitch receiver and the ball mount which will reduce the amount of movement in your towing setup. You will also need # C40002 for a 1-7/8" ball, # 40038 for a 2" ball, or # 63847 for a 2-5/16" ball.
