Hi, I’m wondering if you could help me identify the best products to buy for my vehicle. I own a 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness that currently does not have a tow hitch installed. I would like to install a tow system that will allow me to tow 3500lbs, with 500lbs+ tongue weight capacity. I will want to be able to control both trailer lights and brakes. Would you be able to provide product advice for me? Thanks! Best

There's only one hitch for your 2022 Subaru Outback with that high of a tongue weight capacity and it is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch item # DT73RR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Subaru with included hardware. It has a 4,500 lbs towing capacity and a 675 lbs maximum tongue weight.
To install a 7-Way harness on your 2022 Subaru Outback you will need two separate wiring harnesses because they don't make just one that'll do the job.
The first harness you'll need is the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness item # C56040. This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your Subaru's wiring harness, which is located behind the interior trim panel in your rear cargo area. This will provide you with a 4-flat connector.
The second harness you will need is the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
To control your trailer's brakes you will also need a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your Subaru decelerates.
The Tow-Pro Liberty is the best option is because of its unique installation method where the only visible portion is the control knob that's about the size of a nickel. The main unit is hidden away inside your dash to be completely out of the way and out of sight.
To complete your installation you will need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers item # RED69FR.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
