Features to know about

Keep a Clean Look While Adding Towing Power: Hidden Cross Tube Design

You don’t have to give up a clean look just to add utility. The EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver keeps its cross tube tucked behind the bumper so only the 2" x 2" receiver is visible. That means you get the function of a Class III hitch without the bulky look of traditional setups. The hidden design keeps your vehicle’s lines intact while still giving you a solid connection point for racks, carriers, or trailers.

Haul Gear with Confidence: Class III Strength and Tested Durability

This hitch is rated for 3,500 lbs gross trailer weight and 525 lbs tongue weight, giving you plenty of strength for small campers, boats, or bike racks. It meets SAE J684 towing safety regulations and has been tested with Finite Elemental Analysis to verify durability at key stress points. Whether you're hauling weekend gear or towing a utility trailer, you can count on the hitch to hold up mile after mile.

Skip the Complicated Install: Simple Bolt-On Fit with No Drilling

You won’t need special tools or welding equipment here. The EcoHitch bolts directly to existing frame points using a straightforward installation process—no drilling or welding required. Once in place, it lines up neatly under the bumper for a clean finish that looks like it came from the factory.

Built Strong and Eco-Friendly: Alloy Construction with Rust-Resistant Finish

This hitch is made from a lightweight but sturdy alloy that combines aluminum, steel, and stainless steel. The metal blend is built to resist corrosion while keeping weight down, and it’s made with recycled materials for a lower carbon footprint during production. A black powder coat finish protects against rust and road wear so your hitch stays looking good over time.

A solid, well-built hitch is one of those things you don’t think about much once it’s on there, but it makes all the difference when you’re towing. What are you planning to use it for?

by:
Would give 5 stars but for the anxiety of messing up the fishing wire on the first bolt. Couldn't they have put a spiral on both ends or provide 2? Installation ended up being very straight forward, but the cut for the hitch to pass through following instructions was too shallow and offset too far away from the recessed anchor.
by:
I really like the receiver. It fits snug with very minimal encroachment to the rear clearance on the car. Cost was much better than OEM as well as the load rating. Only reason for the 4 star is the hassle of installation. Taking things apart was not too bad. Putting it all back together came with a bit of cursing. Especially with the cut out on the bottom side of the bumper. I wish they offered an actual template to print out and tape to the bumper but it only has dimensions and the depiction of the bumper did not exactly match mine. This made it a bit more difficult with several attempts whittling away at it to get it correct. In the end it turned out great. Just took a lot longer than anticipated.

Well done the hitch fit my 2026 Subaru Outback perfectly, the instructions were good. I only caught one mistake on the instructions but it was insignificant. Only a small modification was needed to the center panel to allow the hitch to protrude from the facia. Again Good product!!

Works good except the cable ties are a bit hard to release

by:
Ford Edge
I successfully installed it myself. Everything went well and installation instructions were good except for one step. The cutting of the bumper skirt to allow clearance for the new hitch were a little vague. I did manage to cut it but not deep enough into the bumper so during installation of that bumper skirt it wasn't aligning screw holes properly, but the snaps along the edge already connected. Made it work with plans of taking the skirt off and cutting the clearance deeper sometime this year and now it's a year later with that still needing to be done.
Have used my utility trailer many times and all good.

Packaging for the hitch is terribly inadequate. What makes this more egregious is there are other reviews with the exact same issue... The hitch is pretty heavy duty and appears to be undamaged, though I believe the proof of this will be in a successful installation.
by:
Nothing exciting about a trailer hitch and harness, however they are of very good quality and have served me well for the past year,
I was most pleased with the lady who took my order, the order was filled very quickly and sent directly to a local service shop who in turn called me and set up a time for installation. Great service from all
by:
Completely happy. Hitch visually looks just like the photos. Welds were all clean with no porosity or undercutting. Install was easier than 10 out of 10 difficulty. If you own metric swivel sockets or 1/2” drive universal with 12” extension; you will not need to drop the muffler for install. Install took me 2 1/2 hours. I like the higher tongue rating, and would recommend to anyone wanting a higher spec hitch.
by:
Subaru wanted $600 for a hitch and $300 to install. I found strainer on line and order a better hitch for half the cost at Subaru. I installed the hitch myself using the install Video from etrailer. It made the install easy and it only took me a hour to be ready to tow. Thanks etrailer
by:
Perfect fit. Great quality. Installation was fairly easy. Installation instructions could better quality. There should be a paper template for the cuts that need to be made in the bumper cover.

Follow the installation video and you can't hardly go wrong with this receiver hitch. It was intimidating but very straightforward installation. Very happy with the final product, I just wish it would have been packed better. A little bubble wrap around the sharp edges would go a long way.
by:
The hitch receiver came faster than expected. The video for installation was extremely helpful. I recommend this product

Thanks for your feedback, Francis. I’m sorry to hear the receiver didn’t give you the depth you were expecting. This hitch is designed with a hidden cross tube, which gives it that clean, factory look but can result in a slightly shorter receiver opening compared to some standard exposed hitches. That can sometimes affect how certain accessories fit, especially ones with longer shanks or specific clearance needs. If you’re trying to use a particular accessory, feel free to let us know what you’re pairing it with and we’d be happy to help find a better fit or recommend a solution that gives you the clearance you need.

by:
The hitch itself is pretty solid but the shipping packaging is terrible. Wish it was packaged/wrapped better for shipping. To avoid rust I painted over the exposed metal.
by:
Everything fitted as advertised. No installation problems. Thank you for a great product
by:
Performing perfectly. Easy to install. # friends installed the same hitch after they saw mine.

  • Custom Hitch For a 2026 Subaru Outback
Hey, Charles! You've come to the tight place for a new hitch. Also congrats on the new Outback. For the 2026 year we do have the EcoHitch part # EH34FR. It is rated as a 10 out of 10 for installation difficulty since you will need to remove the bumper and do some trimming to the underside fascia. The Trimming isn't much and you wont be able to see it once the bumper is back on. What are you planning to use the hitch for?

  • Is The Curt Or EcoHitch Trailer Hitch Better for the 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon
The Curt Class III hitch part # C67JR and EcoHitch - 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon part # EH34FR are both very similar as far as looks go on the 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon. They are both hidden cross tube designs so the only part of the hitch that is visible once installed is the receiver. They also both install between the bumper and frame of the vehicle so the installation is pretty much the same. I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver because they install the same and look the same but...

Keep in mind though you should never exceed your vehicles weight rating. The main differences come in the material used and the appearance on the vehicle. • 7-Way Trailer Connector Mounting Bracket for 2021 Subaru Outback
The EcoHitch # EH34FR doesn't provide an integral bracket for installing a 7-way trailer connector. We offer bracket mounts that usually work pretty well, which will use a pipe clamp to attach to the hitch crossbar, but because the crossbar will be buried behind the bumper cover once the installation is complete, that wouldn't be a good option in this case. The Curt # C58000 Easy Mount bracket would be your best bet.

Hi Wes; the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # EH34FR has an alloy construction. It doesn't have individual components made of different metals, they're all the alloy. Some EcoHitch models have a stainless receiver, that is the only exception and doesn't apply to this particular hitch. I wouldn't be concerned about the strength.
