Can I replace a black pigtail with a green pigtail.

The color of the fittings were to signify the BTU range for the fittings, but with some manufacturers stepping out of those ranges the color really isn't as important and knowing what the BTU rating of your regulator is. Since the Type-1 Fitting would be before the regulator the flow is going to be limited to the capacity of the regulator. If you had a regulator like part # 37207-30335, which has a 175,000 BTU rating and used a fitting like # 204024-MBS, which has a 200,000 BTU rating you'd be limited to the 175,000 BTU capacity of the regulator.

You'll want to just figure out the rating for your regulator and either match it or go higher to ensure you're getting the most out of your system.
