Are 3,500 lb Electric Trailer Brakes Overkill For 2,200 lb Axle

Question. Is it a little overkill to mounting 10 in brakes 3500 pound on a 2200 pound Axle? I have 14in wheels on my travel trailer with a 2200 pound Axle. Mounting bracket is 2 7/8 2 3/4?

You'll get more braking power than generally needed with 3,500 lb electric trailer brakes on a trailer with 2,200 lb axles. But if you have 14 inch wheels on your travel trailer you won't be able to use 2,000 - 2,200 lb electric brakes as they are for 10 inch to 13 inch wheels. So 3,500 lb brakes will work so long as you have a 10 inch diameter drum; here is what you'll need:

- Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35

- Mounting Hardware for 10" Brake Assemblies # BRKH10B

- Brake Adjustment Spoon for Drum Brakes # W80630

These will fit your brake mounting flange with mounting holes that are 2-7/8 inches apart.
