Question:
I got a trailer with a 3500lb axle the springs on it are rated for 1800 lbs each. I’ve noticed the springs are not as strong as they once were and with only 1600 lbs on it the springs are bottomed out and the axle is touching the underside of the deck. I’m looking for a heavier spring to replace the springs I got now for a better ride with a full load previously it would bottom out if I hit to big of a bump. I was looking at both a 4000 lbs spring set and a 5000 spring set. Which would be best the load I carry is set right on top of the axle so all 2300 lbs are on top of the axle. Spring size are width is 1-3/4 length is 25/1/4 double eye with holes of 9/16 3 leaf.

Helpful Expert Reply:
It's okay to replace leaf springs with ones rated for more weight and pretty common to do so but keep in mind, the higher you go the rougher the ride will be. If you have a utility trailer then I'd probably opt for the higher rated 5,000 lb springs, 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles part # e44SR. If you have a camper trailer then I'd probably opt for the lower rated 4,000 lb springs, 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles part # e57SR.
