Trailer Wheel and Tire Recommendation for Size ST175/80R13

Published 05/16/2023

Question:

I have a 4100 lb trailer with dual axle, electric over hydraulic 4 wheel disc brakes, manufactured in 2013. The manufacturer recommended and supplied tires were ST175/80R13C Load Range C. Weighed on a truck scale the total weight of trailer and boat is 5,100 lbs off of the hitch. I run at a full 50 PSI. I am on my third set of tires in 11 years approximately 28,000 miles all to those specs. The last set is Trailer King ST II Radial and have been happy with them. 5th year, 9,000 miles. The weight rating for the tires is 1,200 lbs dual for a total of 4,800 lbs. Would you recommend going to Load D in the same tire 1430 lb / 5720 lb @ 65 PSI and if so will the rims handle them T13X4 5J ? Or should I stick with the original recommendation? What is your recommendation for a top quality tire replacement? Tires on wheels - are they ready to be mounted?

Expert Reply:

For a high quality trailer and wheel that has an ST175/80R13 mounted to it is the part # AM31998 which has a Load Range D and an aluminum wheel. It has an automotive tread pattern and a higher speed rating at 81 mph.

Our trailer wheel and tires that are mounted like this are ready to mount and use after checking tire pressure.
