Question:
I am considering the purchase of a Rice 10K GVWR Equipment Trailer that will be pulled by a 2022 Ford F-150 with a maximum tow rating of 9500 Lb. The cargo being hauled on the trailer will bring the gross trailer weight to 9000 lbs. Maintaining the trucks maximum tow rating will require the use of a weight distribution hitch. As the attached pictures show, the trailer has a 6inch channel A-frame with a tool box mounted on the top. This toolbox appears to leave minimal space to bolt the rear brackets of a weight distribution hitch to the A-frame. If the toolbox were raised upwards max is top of the deck headboard, would the use of a weight distribution hitch be possible? What weight distribution hitch would be recommended? The 2022 F-150 has trailer sway control mitigation as a standard feature. Thank you

I recommend using the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET for your equipment trailer. In my experience I find the Equal-i-zer just works as it should and lasts for years of use without issues like many of their competiors. With this you have a couple options for mounting which will not require you to move your tool box. First if you have access to a welder you can have the Link Plate # EQ90-02-5370 welded on to the outside of the frame. You could also drill holes through the frame but if you choose this method be sure to sleeve the hole so it will not crush the frame in.
The Equal-i-zer # EQ37120ET is rated for a tongue weight of 800-1,200lbs with a maximum trailer weight of 12,000lbs so it should be perfect for you pulling 9,000lbs. It can also transfer to another truck later down the road if you decide a bigger truck will make pulling easier.
