Can a Trailer Grease Seal Be Pressed In Too Far Beyond Flush
Published 05/22/2014 >
Question:
I recently Purchased a new brake assembly and Bearing kit Bk1-150. I installed them last night with only one small problem. When installing the Seal on the rear side of the hub, I accidentally pushed the seal in a bit too far. It is flush on one side but in about a 1/16 inch or 1/8on the other. I tired to remove it and fix but thought I would ruin it. I dont have any extra seals and so I just left it. The hub seems to turn fine. Is this going to be a problem over an extended time or a problem right away? Can I leave it for a few summer trips? Not planning any long hauls with it. It is on a popup camper. Any advice would be great Thank you

You should be fine as long as the rubber of the seal is intact and the metal is not deformed. There is a ridge in the hub that would prevent the seal from getting pressed in so far that the seal would interfere with the bearings.
I confirmed this with our installers here who rebuild trailer hubs all the time.
