Question:
What does the MTI number that is stamped on the Dexter 8-201 6 lug drum stand for? I have two 6 lug drums that are both stamped 8-201 but one drum is stamped 7MTI and the other 12MTI? what does MTI mean? They seem to have a different outer bearing but thats the only difference I think I can see?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The MTI number on your 8-201 hubs is simply a casting number. It does not indicate any information about the hubs or have anything to do with the actual part number. I'm not surprised to hear you have different outer bearings between the two since there are variations of the 8-201. However, both should have the same inner diameter of 1.25" so it won't make a difference for fitment.
For example, the # 8-201-5UC3-EZ for 5,200 lb axles and # K08-201-9B for 6,000 lb axles are both 8-201 hubs as indicated on the hub face. However, one uses the # LM67048 outer bearing and the other the # 15123 outer bearing. The main difference between the two is the capacity.
The one thing I would check on the new hub you have there is the grease seal. The # GS-2250DL (2.25" ID) and # GS-2125DL (2.125" ID) will both fit those hubs so you need to make sure you have the correct size to match your spindle.
