Question:
Does the receiver ride above the muffler or below the mufflee of the 2022 jeep Cherokee trail hawk?

The receiver for the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e73ZR is designed to hang just below the rear bumper on your 2022 Jeep Cherokee. I saw different models at the back of the Trailhawk style so while I'm not entirely sure where the receiver will sit in relation to the muffler, I can say that if your muffler is recessed into the bumper like what seems to be pretty common then the receiver will be below the muffler.
If this is a concern for you then I recommend using the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # DT28MR instead since it's designed to protrude from the middle of the bumper.
If you plan on using this hitch for a bike rack then I highly recommend the Thule T2 Pro XTR # TH83JV because it uses a hitch pin guide instead of a standard hitch pin. This means you won't be reaching into the bumper on your Jeep just to secure the bike rack. The pin snaps into the hitch pin hole to line everything up and then you secure and lock everything with the locking anti-rattle knob at the other end of the shank.
