Troubleshooting Tack Room and Cargo Lights Not Working for Horse Trailer

Question:

Inside tack room, cargo lights and out side convenience lights on my horse trailer won’t work. I have a 2003 F250 6.0 Diesel. All of the other lights work. I checked all 15 amp fuses in the fuse box in cab. Any suggestions as to what other fuses I should check?

The first thing to do is figure out how your lights get their power in the first place. Normally with your kind of setup the lights are either powered by the 12V pin on the 6-Way or 7-Way connection - this is the center pin for a 6-Way or the pin in the 1 o'clock position on the F-250 7-Way which you can see in the attached photos. Aside from that you would have these lights powered via a battery bank on the trailer.

The troubleshooting looks the same for both cases thankfully. You've already checked the fuses so now you need to check any and all connections and wiring for that circuit. Look for any places where there is corrosion or the wiring has been bent or damaged and fix accordingly. If the lights are powered via the 7-Way be sure to check the pins and potentially the internal parts of the 7-Ways and make sure you actually have power from your truck back to the connector. You can use a tester like # PTW2993 that probes into the wiring directly to test these functions.
