1. Count the lug holes
Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).
Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug
2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"
2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)
Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this Dexstar 16-inch by 6-inch silver modular steel trailer wheel with a six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern. Now this wheel's a sturdy steel construction. We mentioned it's a modular design. And when we say modular design, it's the one that has the round holes all the way around the wheel. This wheel has excellent corrosion resistance.
It uses a two-step finishing process, which will first include an E-coat primer and then a silver powder coat finish over that. It is a high-quality wheel. It does meet the DOT, Department of Transportation, specifications. Do you notice the center cap is not included We do sell those separately. If you do want a center cap, you do wanna get one that has the same diameter as this pilot hole.
'Cause when you install it, it'll go through this hole to hold it into place. The pilot hole diameter on this wheel is 4.27-inches. This is wheel is made by Dexstar, which means it's made by USA. A few dimensions on this we're gonna measure is the diameter and the width. And when you measure the diameter, what you're measuring is inside to inside.
In other words, bead seat to bead seat. When your tire's mounted on here, the tire beads are gonna seat right here. So what you're gonna measure is the inside to inside. So if we get our tape measure and go straight across, there's your 16-inch diameter. We do the width, same way, bead seat to bead seat, or inside to inside.
And there's your 6-inch wide. Now the bolt pattern on this is a six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern. And if you wanted to measure that on a wheel like this, that's an even number of lugs. It's pretty easy because you can see the lug holes are directly across from each other. So all you have to do is pick one hole. Let's say this one, measure from the center of this hole to the center of the hole right across from it. On this one, it'll measure 5-1/2-inches. So it's a six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern. It does use a wheel lug size of 1/2-inch by 20, and the weight capacity on this is 3,520 pounds. But that should do it for a look at the Dexstar 16-inch by 6-inch silver modular steel trailer wheel with the six on 5-1/2-inch bolt pattern.
