Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Recommended Made in USA 16 x 6 Trailer Wheels With 6 on 5-1/2 Bolt Pattern
There are wheels made here in the USA but to get the right one I'd need to know your wheel bolt pattern and the wheel diameter you need. If you are unsure of what your wheel bolt pattern is or how to find it, I've added a link to a help article on how to determine wheel bolt pattern for you to take a look at. If you get back to me with that information I'd be happy to help you find the best wheel for your trailer.

  • Availability of 16 Wheel to Fit 5.2K Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly with 6 on 5-1/2 Pattern
Yes, we have a variety of wheels and tire/wheel combos for 16" wheels that are compatible with the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern of the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-213-5UC1. For a combination tire mounted on the wheel you could go with The Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Tire w 16" White Spoke Wheel # AM32764. . The white spoke wheel is a little plain but it is pretty common for trailers. If you'd like something else then I have attached a link with our selection that you can filter through.

  • Steel 16" Trailer Wheels With 6 on 5-1/2" Bolt Pattern
Here is a list of our 16" steel trailer wheels which have the 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern. We will not have any wheels which have the 95.4mm pilot hole you are needing which should not likely be an issue since trailers will typically use a coned Lug Nut # CE11051 which lug centers the wheel rather than hub centering the wheel like several vehicles will require. If your trailer hub is hub centric and uses a Flange Nut # LI84FR you will need to have an centric ring adapter made to fit the wheels....

  • USA Made Trailer Tire Recommendation for 16 inch Wheel Size
The Goodyear Endurance trailer tires are the only USA made trailer tires out there. We do not carry them in your size or the close trailer tire size of 235/85-16 that would fit your same wheel. If you want a tire and wheel, we have the Kenda ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - but we only have them in Load Range E if you want them already mounted on a black mod wheel with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt patter. Part # AM34834. While they are not made in USA, they are a highly rated with a 10 ply rating,...

The HWT # AM22657 16x7 aluminum trailer wheel is manufactured in China. We do offer some Dexstar US made 16 inch trailer wheels. If a zero offset wheel would work for you, we offer some steel wheels with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. • Black 16x6 conventional trailer wheel, part # AM20758 • Black 16x6 mini mod trailer wheel, part # AM20757 • White 16x6 spoked wheel, # AM20741 • White 16x6 mini mod trailer wheel, part # AM20742 • Silver 16x6 mini mod trailer wheel, part # AM20746

  • How to Pick Out a Replacement Rim for a Horse Trailer
The Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel # AM20746 that you referenced is a 16 inch diameter wheel with a 6 on 5-1/2 inch bolt pattern. I am assuming this is the same style of wheel that will look similar to what you currently have. Now to determine if this rim will fit what you have on your trailer you will need to make sure that your trailer tire size is designed to fit a 16 inch rim. You will need to find the size of the tire stamped on the sidewall. If the size ends in 16 then you...

  • Can I Mount A 5 Lug land Cruiser Wheel To The Timbren 5200lb HD Axle
The only hubs that are compatible with the Timbren 5200lb HD Axle like part # T99GR are going to be 6 lug hubs like the # 8-213-5UC1-EZ. We do not offer any 5 lug hubs compatible with this axle, so there is not going to be a way to mount a 5 lug Land Cruiser wheel on this axle. Our recommendation is to go with different wheels, like the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel # AM20746, which is a 16" silver 6 lug trailer wheel.

  • What Is The Difference Between Galvanized And E-Coating On Trailer Wheels
The difference between E-Coat and Galvanized finish is the material and the method by which they are applied. Galvanizing involves the application of a heavy layer of molten zinc. E-coating is the process of immersing the part in a bath of water-soluable paint while being connected to an electrical power source set at a certain voltage. E-coating is widely used in the automobile industry due to the smooth surface and the ability to apply paint over it. If the item is being used in rough...

  • Recommended Replacement Wheels and Tires For a 2001 Kieferbilt Horse Trailer With 5,200LB Axles
The Dexstar # AM20746 is going to have a silver powder coat finish while the Vesper # TA73VR has a more durable acrylic enamel finish which is resists damage better than powder coat. For the tires I recommend sticking with a quality ST235/80R16 load range E tire like the Karrier # AM10248. Going up to a 14-ply like the Westlake # WE76FR will cause the tire to bounce more than deflect which transfers more shock into the trailer causing a worse ride for your horses and equipment.

The Dexstar # AM20746 16x6 trailer wheel has a valve stem hole that's .625 of an inch in diameter. For a valve stem, I'd recommend the Americana # AM20906, which fits .625 or .453 inch diameter stem mounting holes. I've linked to a demonstration/installation video for the wheel and the valve stem I recommended you.

  • How Large is the Hub Bore on the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly AKHD-655-6-K
I went out to our warehouse and measured the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-655-6-K for you. The hub bore is 3.409" therefore that would be the minimum hub bore on your trailer wheels. Almost all of the trailer wheels we offer with a 6 on 5-1/2" lug pattern have a hub pilot hole sufficient for this. For example, the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel part # AM20746 has a 4.27" hub pilot hole.

  • What is the Max PSI of the Dexstar Wheel # AM20746?
For determining the max psi for wheels like the Dexstar # AM20746, they are able to withstand the max psi of any tires that are designed to fit with that wheel size. The deciding factor is the tire's valve stem. For example, a valve stem like the Americana Rubber, Snap-In Valve Stem - 1-1/4" Long # AM20903 has a maximum psi of 65. The Americana High Pressure Rubber Snap-In Valve Stem - 1-1/2" Long # AM20904 has a maximum psi of 80. We do have 14-ply tires that are compatible with this...

  • Can Replacement Wheel with Larger Pilot Hole be Used on Older Gooseneck Trailer
As long as the hubs on your gooseneck trailer feature wheel studs and the wheels attach using lug nuts going with a wheel like the Dexstar # AM20746 that you referenced that has a larger pilot hole diameter is not an issue at all. This is referred to a lug-centric wheel setup and since the wheels are centered to the hub using lug nuts the pilot hole doesn't matter (unless it's too small to fit over the hub). This is what the vast majority of trailers use but since you have an older trailer...

If you are looking for a good quality 16x6 rim with a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern, check out the Dexstar Steel Mini Mod Trailer Wheel # AM20746. This American made wheel is a 16x6 rim and includes the 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. It is also rated up to 3,520 pounds of capacity and the silver powder coat finish over the e-coat primer will do well with corrosion resistance. The price point really can't be beat either. This will be a fantastic spare.

The grease cap included in this hub kit, which also does come with bearings and races, has an outer diameter of 2.44-inches, so the hub's bore will naturally be very slightly larger than that.
