Trailer Hitch Installation Difficulty on a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude

Updated 01/13/2014 | Published 01/11/2014

Question:

Based on the info. on your website, the above hitch is what I need for my new vehicle. My question for you is, I plan on doing this myself at home without a lift. Is it possible, for a home owner to lay underneath the rear of the vehicle and install the hitch while on their back? Also, are all 2014 Jeep Cherokee latitude vehicles have predrilled holes for hitches? Also, do I have to remove any piping on the vehicle prior to install this hitch? Thanks.

The etrailer hitch # e73ZR is indeed a fit for the Latitude model of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Trailer hitch installation is something that you can do at home but I do recommend having an assistant because hitches are heavy and getting them in the right place and tightening hardware at the same time is difficult for one person to do alone.

All 2014 Jeep Cherokees will have the holes for the hitch already in the frame. You will not have to do any drilling but there is some trimming and lowering of the exhaust to install this trailer hitch. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you so you can see how the hitch installs and what tools are needed so you can determine if the installation is something you want to tackle at home.

If you are planning on doing some towing I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 balls, 2 ball mounts, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. You will also need a trailer wiring harness unless the vehicle already has one. To add a 4-Way flat trailer connector you can use # 118605. I have linked instructions for the wiring as well.
