I contacted the manufacturer about the issues you are experiencing with your Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps # 34414. They were able to provide the below troubleshooting steps:
"Unfortunately, there is no real way to “reset” the spring on the inside when it wont retract. What sometimes happens is “gunk” will get in the teeth and slow or hinder the retraction, so my first suggestion is always to try cleaning the teeth with WD40, and then applying a silicone lubricant to the teeth."
They also offered an explanation on what else could cause these issues:
"There are a couple things that can happen with usage/wear and tear that can cause the item to stop retracting. There can be a bend in the bar that is under the strap (right where it comes out of the housing). Sometimes when that bends it hinders the retraction of the strap. The other thing could be that the spring on the inside of the housing has broken. If either of these things were to have happened, unfortunately we have no way to repair them."
These straps do have a 90-day warranty. If you are within the warranty time window, you would be able to get replacement straps from the manufacturer.

That 90 day warranty tells you all you need to know about the retractable mechanism in these straps. Twice the price for 90 days of convenience, then you have a regular ratchet strap again. What a joke these things are.

It's pretty wasteful they. Don't supply replacement rewind springs. You just throw it way when the rest of it is stillgood
