Drilling A Pace Edwards JackRabbit Tonneau Cover Installation On A 2001 GMC Sierra Stepside
Updated 06/07/2022 | Published 06/03/2022 >
Question:
The advertisement says its a no drill application that is not correct. Not only do you have to drill/screw sheet metal screws directly into your bed the screws strip out easily and the rail clips are slotted causing the rails to slide up and down.

Let me start by apologizing. I check our website and I did not find any disclaimer saying the Pace Edwards JackRabbit Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover - Aluminum and Vinyl - Black, part # 311-JRC2576, for your 2001 GMC Sierra stepside, required drilling. I did speak with someone at Pace Edwards and they did offer some trouble shooting advice for your installation.
They suggested to use the area just to the side of the slots to attach the rails. They also recommended to align everything properly, but they said it is a two person job because of your stepside bed. Get it aligned, mark the spot, and start to drill. You will not drill completely through yet, you still need to add the shims. Once the shims have been added, then you will completely install the self tapping screws. These screws should not be tightened beyond 120 inch pounds.
