Where Does the Converter Box for Curt Wiring Harness C56346 Mount on a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:
I have a 2007 Santa Fe LTD with 3rd row seating and factory-ready tow package. The Curt C56346 was sent to me by etrailer to replace a previously ordered wiring harness, due to a recall. After unpacking the C56346 harness, due to the length of the 4-wire exiting the converter box, it was clear that the converter box was NOT going to be able to be mounted inside the vehicle, behind any interior panels. From best I could tell, this model had just enough length from the factory plugs to the converter box to mount the converter box directly to the top of the trailer hitch, a nice flat spot, near the center of the hitch. I was able to secure the box with both 2-sided tape and zip-ties. However, my concern is that this converter box and unshielded 4-wire are now exposed to the elements. Is this Curt converter box sealed and was this exterior mount intended? The Draw-Tite wiring harness #118258 seems to have sufficient 4-wire length also shielded, but requires pulling the factory plugs through the interior panels, which may/may not be possible with my 3rd row seating configuration.

The converter box for Curt wiring harness # C56346 was indeed meant to be mounted outside of the vehicle, underneath where it will be away from tire spray and the elements in general. If I may quote the instructions which I have also linked:
Adhere the black converter box to the underside of the vehicle in a secure out of the way location using the double sided tape
provided. Find a flat, clean surface that is out of the path of road spray from the tires.
You could further protect the box by wrapping it up in electrical tape but that may cause it to get too hot and damage something on the inside of the converter.
The Draw-Tite harness # 118258 is longer and comes with a grommet so you can install the converter inside and run the 4-Way to the outside of the vehicle. The third row of seats should not interfere with the installation of this harness.
