Mounting Orientation of the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels for Class C RVs up to 34'

Question:

OK, so I bought this wheel thinking that I could use it on a 3inch square hitch bar. Almost works, but not quite. So what are my alternatives? I know about roller 979023 but I want something taller without having to weld extra plates on to the hitch bar. How about this idea....do you folks think it would work to weld the mounting plate across my 3inch hitch bar instead of parallel to the bar? Would there be issues with stressing the plate when a load is applied?

You can install the Ultra-Fab Skid Wheels for Class C RVs, # UF48-979012 the way you describe but yes that would change the stress as you identified. If too much or not, depends on the abuse you apply. These are intended to accept the abuse that would otherwise be on your trailer and then replaced if need be.

I suggest you consider welding in the orientation you describe but also welding a block along side to minimize the span.
