Question:

I have a 2022 BMW X5 without sport package. I occasionally need to tow a sailboat that is 1,600 lbs total trailer weight. Looking for most economical option.

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76288 is our most economical receiver for your 2022 BMW X5 without the M Sport package. This receiver will mount behind the bumper beam on your X5 so you will need to remove the bumper fascia and perform some trimming on the fascia. I have included the installation instructions below so you will be able to determine if it is something that you would be able to install yourself or if you prefer to take it to a service center near you.

I recommend the ZCI Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness w/ 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and Installation Kit # 119250KIT for your trailer lighting. This will give you a 4-way flat connector that fits most small trailers like your sailboat trailer. The kit includes everything you will need to install the wiring including a circuit tester to ensure you tie into the correct wiring. In the event your trailer has surge brakes with a electronic lockout the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter # C57187 will allow you to add the reverse light circuit so your lockout will work properly.

A Curt Easy Mount Bracket # C58001 will allow you to secure the 4-way or 5-way to the end of the receiver so the wiring does not become damaged from dragging on the ground.

Our etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 will provide you with 2 seperate ball mounts with either a 3/4" rise/2" drop or 2-3/4" rise/4" drop to level your trailer. The kit also includes a 1-7/8" and 2" hitch ball, storage bag and 2 pin and clips to hold the ball mount in the receiver.
