Question:
Hello, I am looking for a trailer hitch for a 2022 BMW X5 and have a couple of questions. Can you please compare and contrast the Draw-Tite 76288 and the Curt C85VV? Do you recommend one over the other? Thank you,

Hi Danny!
The Draw-Tite # 76288 and Curt # C85VV hitches for your 2022 BMW X5 are going to be pretty similar to each other. There are a few differences though, and I have those listed below:
Draw-Tite # 76288
Towing Capacity: 7,200 lbs Tongue Weight Capacity: 720 lbs
Hitch Height: 12.5"
Weight: 38.9 lbs
Curt # C85VV
Towing Capacity: 7,000 lbs Tongue Weight Capacity: 700 lbs
Hitch Height: 13.5"
Weight: 35.3 lbs
Other than those, the big one is that Curt hitches are American made. That would tend to sway me more towards the Curt hitch, even with the Draw-Tite matching the maximum towing capacities an X5 can have.
Speaking of which, what are you wanting to use the hitch for?

Thank you Lazer, I agree. The weight capacity on the Curt is only 2.8% and it has a 1” higher hitch height. The made in USA is definitely a bonus. I have a 6.5’ x 10’ aluminum trailer that I occasionally use to haul my mower, ATV, my Harley’s and other miscellaneous items that I can’t fit into the SUV. I had a hitch on my Audi Q7 that I put on and didn’t think I would miss it as much as I do since I sold the vehicle.
