can this be installed in place of the standard RV tank type water heater?

The Excel RV Tankless On-Demand Water Heater part # EX93FR will work to replace a standard tank style water heater no problem. That said, the fittings and connections may not be the same so worse case you might need some simple adapters you can obtain locally. The dimensions are likely different as well with the above measuring 11-5/8" wide x 14-5/8" tall x 4-1/2" deep.
