Question:

I have a 2017 Ford F150 Lariat Super crew. The hitch is rated for 500 and 5000 without a weight distribution hitch and 1100 and 11,000 with weight distribution. At the time I purchased the hitch I understood the TW of the boat trailer I purchased would be be just over 800 pounds when fully loaded. It now looks closer to 700 pounds including the hitch weight. Possibly in the mid 600 without fuel in the boat tank. Ive ordered the 600 - 800 pound spring bars but they have an estimated delivery time of early January. Since I need to pick the boat up in two weeks, can I add weight behind the rear trailer axle to make this a safe tow?

You should not attempt to add weight solely to the rear of the trailer to get the tongue weight below the 500lb tongue weight limit on your receiver of your 2017 Ford F-150. Messing with the weight this way will likely cause the trailer to sway, which could likely lead to an accident.

We do have a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Hitch # FA92-00-1000 in stock that you would be able to get in time to pick up your boat. This system includes sway control that will allow you to still back up your trailer with it mounted and is rated for trailers up to 10,000lbs with a tongue weight between 600 and 1,000lbs. This will ensure that you have the correct amount of weight distribution with the boat unloaded and loaded when its time to move it.

To complete this hitch you will need a 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 63840 and a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 to install the trailer ball.

Since you mentioned this is for a boat trailer, if you have a straight tongue you will need the Pole-Tongue Adapter # EQ95-01-5950 as well to mount the sway brackets to the trailer frame. This will fit tongues 1" to 5" wide and 2" to 5" tall.
