Trimming the Appearance Panel for Trailer Hitch Installation on a 2013 Honda CR-V

Updated 06/05/2013 | Published 05/31/2013

Question:

One customers comments on installation of part # 75742 on 2013 Honda CR-V Taking the advice of others, I left the panel on and made my cuts using a Dremel with a cutting wheel. I measured 17inch from the far side of the tow loop. This was perfect. Instead of cutting out a hole, I made a flap that pulled out to the side. Once the hitch was in place, the flap tucked up in place firmly leaving no gaping hole by: Rroy 05/18/2013 Id like to install the hitch according to this customers suggestion however, I want to know which of the four sides was not cut in making the flap. Although I may be able to figure it out once I get the hitch, it would be handy to know beforehand, if possible. I think its great that customers are giving their first-hand installation suggestions that may help others.

If you look at the instructions and at the picture I have included, it will show you where that cut needs to be made. Even though I cannot recommend altering the instructions, in this case if it does not affect the installation or performance of the hitch in anyway then it is permissible.

Please note the orientation of the panel as indicated in the picture.

If you plan on doing some towing I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount, pin and clip, interchangeable ball set, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring use # 118561. I have linked instructions and videos for the hitch and wiring for you.
