The power is going to come from the 7-way connection on your vehicle. This will also power the Curt Echo # C51180. The Echo Smart Control App does not need to be open for the brake controller to operate. The app is only necessary to change the settings, calibrate output, and use the emergency override on the Echo. Even if your phone is off, the Echo will continue to function as a proportional brake controller. Should your iPhone lose connection, the Echo will default to the settings of the last profile used.
