Solution for Hitch Install that Hits Exhaust and Makes Noise
Updated 08/09/2021 | Published 08/07/2021 >
Question:
After installing the Curt CU64FR on my 2015 Subaru Forester, the rubber exhaust hanger hits the hitch causing the tailpipe to not be centered in the opening for it. I am worried about the tailpipe burning the bumper it is so close. Also, I am worried that the hitch will eventually cut through the rubber hangar. Any ideas what to do?

Exhaust rattle is fairly common problem with hitch installs that can easily be fixed. Since exhaust systems are designed for slight movements they don't always sit in the same spot on every vehicle, so when a hitch is designed for a vehicle the hitch might sit close and not rattle on one vehicle, but on another vehicle the clearances might be different and the exhaust might hit the hitch.
To see how to address the exhaust rattle you are experiencing check out the video I attached to this page. Basically you are going to need to bend your exhaust hangers or go with different length isolators.
