Is there any reason why this cant be installed on a side wall instead of a roof?

The MaxxAir Mini Deluxe Trailer Roof Vent, # MA00-03851 was not designed for side mounting. You can of course attempt to but I suggest you first consider the MaxxFan Dome Plus Roof Vent, # MA00-03810B as this product was designed for either rooftop or sidewall installation. This is designed to fit roof or walls from 1" up to 6" and is more compact than MaxxAir Mini Deluxe Trailer Roof Vent, # MA00-03851.
