How Long Should Safety Chains Be for Trailer
Updated 05/27/2021 | Published 05/26/2021 >
Question:
Best method, and how to ensure proper length to “cradle” a detached tongue/hitch, yet allow full turning radius? THANKS!!

Expert Reply:
Since safety chains pivot underneath the trailer when making turns it's typically not a situation where a significant length of safety chain is needed to allow sharp turns to be made. Basically you'd want to measure the distance between the safety chain loop on the trailer and the loops of the hitch and give yourself and additional bit of slack.
The part # C80136 measures 42 inches and is coiled too to keep it off of the ground.
