Question:

Is there a difference between hitch lock parts to be used for the model of Kuat Transfer v2 options? One answer states the HL2 lock will work for Transfer v2 - 2 bike rack. However a separate answer states the HL2 will not work with the 3-bike rack KU24FR , but a more expensive hitch lock w/ individual bike cable lock kit must be purchased part # PTSCLK13. The hitch locks look similar and Im hesitant to purchase a kit made for the older version Transfer, plus have to purchase additional individual cables will those fit the v2? when the v2 already comes with a long cable lock. Could you please help clarify why two different hitch locks are needed for the Transfer v2 series?

Yes it is. The Hitch Lock for Kuat Bike Racks - 2" Hitches, part # HL2, will work with the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes but not the Kuat Transfer V2 Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 3 Bikes. The bike racks are secured to the vehicle in different ways, thus the incompatibility. The anti-rattle hitch bolt of the Transfer V2 works like a traditional threaded hitch pin to eliminate the movement between the hitch receiver and the hitch bike rack. The Transfer V3 has an anti-rattle device that is in the front of the the bike rack and it uses a special wrench to eliminate the movement between the hitch receiver and the hitch bike rack. It does come with a hitch pin, but it is not threaded.

The Cable Locks and Hitch Lock for Kuat Transfer 3 Bike Rack, part # PTSCLK13, will not work with your Transfer V2 Bike Rack For 3 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount, part # KU24FR. It is compatible with the older Transfer 3 hitch bike rack, not the Transfer V2 Bike Rack For 3 Bikes.
