If you take a look at the diagram I produced for you, you can see how a clearance light would install.
The holes on the rear of the lamp are marked, one for power, the other for ground. The power wire would tap into the running light circuit, the ground wire would be attached to the trailer frame using a ring terminal and self-tapping screw. Both wires would connect to the lamp by stripping about a 1/4 of an inch of insulation off of the wire, twisting the ends and pushing them into the appropriate holes in the rear of the lamp, where they would lock into place.
There are many ways of tapping the power wire into the running light circuit, I like to use a butt connector. Locate the running light circuit at its closest point to the location where you want to install the lamp. Cut the wire, and strip both sides about 1/4 inch. Place one wire in one end of the connector, and crimp into place. In the other end of the connector, place the other end of the wire as well as the wire leading to the marker lamp (see diagram) and crimp.
