Can Curt Short Arm Weight Distribution be Used on V-Nose Trailer With 25-1/2 Inches of Clearance

Updated 05/19/2021 | Published 05/17/2021

Question:

I have a 24 foot Bravo trailer with a V on the front that only gives me 25.5 inch of space from the center of the ball to the start of the V. I really am struggling with sway and squat. from the measurements on this hitch it doesnt appear the it will fit on my trailer, do you have any suggestions? I am open to putting different springs on my truck if that would help I have a 2015 chevy Silverado 1500, but would prefer to have a weight distribution hitch if possible.

Thank you for that photo, and we do have a solution here for you that will allow you to use the Curt Short-Arm system you mentioned, though you are right that as it is the arms are too long for your 25-1/2 inches of clearance. So what you will need to do is add chain hangers to the side of your trailer frame; you will bolt these onto your frame and this will give you a way to mount the Curt system. The system, along with the hangers are the following:

- Curt Short-Arm Weight Distribution System with Shank # C17332

- Chain Hangers for Curt Weight Distribution Systems - Bolt On # C17005

This system will ensure you are level, but not with the sway as it is a weight distribution system only. But what you do instead that is going to help with the sway is add an electronic sway control system, which will work assuming you do have electric brakes. What you will want to add is a system from Lippert:

- Tuson Asymmetric Sway Control # 335TSC-1000

How this works is it activates your trailer's electric brakes slightly when the unit's sensor notices sway. That will result in your trailer correcting any sway activity and give you a much more comfortable, safer towing experience. I have added some links below to video reviews and instruction manuals for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
