Published 11/01/2022 >
Question:
I just purchased a new trailer and in need of a new hitch setup because the tongue weight is more than the previous. Could you help me ? The new camper is a 2023 Forest River RV Wildwood Heritage Glen 308RL. Dry weight of 9,004 lb tongue weight of 1,225. Tow vehicle is a 2016 2500hd crew cab long box. Max and Tow capacity 13,500. Max payload capacity of 3,200. Thank you.

First, thanks for all that info, and while things like dry weight are important, the most important thing is the GVWR. For your Wildwood Heritage Glen 308RL, the GVWR per Forest River is 11,425 lbs. And since total tongue weight is in the neighborhood of 12% - 13% of GVWR, yours should be in the 1,400 lb range. For something that works with that weight, and will provide the best leveling and sway control, I recommend the Blue Ox SwayPro:
- Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BXW1500
The SwayPro # BXW1500 is rated for total tongue weights between 1,000 lbs and 1,500 lbs, which is the exact range your Wildwood Heritage will be. So it is rated correctly, but also gives you excellent sway control, which is important on a travel trailer as large as yours. The SwayPro controls sway at four different points - at the hitch head and brackets - which allows a more controlled, comfortable, and safe towing experience.
The hitch is also quieter than others due to its use of brackets and lift chains; this means you won't hear the loud, grating noise that comes with hitches that use metal-on-metal friction-style brackets.
