Question:
I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 with factory OEM receiver, but I plan to remove the stock OEM receiver, and then was looking to install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15704. I noticed though that the C15809 has a higher WD GTM of 20,000 lbs. versus the C15704 has a lower WD GTM of 18,000 lbs. Id prefer to have the highest capacity, but I dont care for having the C15809 mounted lower and under the existing OEM hitch. Is there another option similar to the C15704 with a higher capacity that would still allow me to remove my stock OEM hitch and have the replacement receiver mounted higher in the same or close to the same location as stock?

The highest rated trailer hitch receiver that is tight to the rear bumper of your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 is going to be the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V - 2-1/2" # C15704 which is rated for for 2700lbs tongue weight and 18000lbs trailer weight.
Its going to come down to being ok with a hitch that sticks down a bit lower like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V Commercial Duty - 2-1/2" # C15809 so you can get the 20000lb trailer weight rating, or if you would rather have a trailer hitch receiver closer to the bumper.
Keep in mind that the max towing capacity for the highest options 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 is 13500lbs, so either receiver will still be limited to the towing capacity of your specific truck.
I included a video of the # C15809 for you to take a look at.
