If I am close to 1500 lbs tongue weight should I get the 1,500 lb version or move up towards the 2000 lb version?

If you are under 1,500 lbs of tongue weight you'll be best served going with the lighter rated # BXW4008. Being on the high end of a tongue weight range is much better than being too low for a system's tongue weight range as that would give you a very harsh ride quality.
