Troubleshooting Travel Trailer Porpoising While Using Weight Distribution System
Updated 01/03/2018 | Published 01/02/2018 >
Question:
I have a 2017 GMC 1500 with 6.2L and max trailer package rated to tow up to 11,800lbs. Had my TT weighed loaded at 9,600. Tongue weight loaded is 1,300. I have the Blue Ox 1000 lb. It tows well most of the time but on many road surfaces the truck will porpoise. I now use 10 links on the chain, so cant really go much more. If I switch to the 1500lb springs, will it help with the porpoising?

Expert Reply:
The porpoising is partially due to your tongue weight being far greater than your weight distribution system is rated for so the system isn't able to distribute the weight effectively. The Replacement Spring Bars for Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System - 1,500 lbs TW # BXW4008 will allow you to upgrade your current system to better distribute the total tongue weight. You also want to make sure you calculate any weight behind the rear axle of your truck into that total tongue weight that your weight distribution system needs to account for.
