Question:
I have an old style electric brake system with the round magnets which I know are obsolete. Will your item #AKEBRK-6L and AKEBRK-6R replace the old style set up and work with my 12x2 drums.

The # AKEBRK-6L and # AKEBRK-6R are compatible with standard 12x2 brake drums found on 5.2 to 7K trailer axles. The shape of the magnet won't have any bearing on the compatibility of the brake assembly with your current brake drums. These would be a good replacement, but to be honest I'd personally choose self adjusting brake assemblies like # AKEBRK-7-SA. If you don't care to reuse your existing brake assembly mounting hardware, we offer replacement hardware as part # BRKH12 which includes hardware for 2 brake assemblies.
I'd also recommend examining the inside armature surface (the surface the magnet rides against) of your current brake drums. If the armature surface of your drums are scored, grooved or pitted, the magnets on the new brake assemblies won't stick will and will affect how well the brakes work.
If you do need replacement drums, please reply with the wheel bolt pattern (see linked article) and the reference number for the inner and outer wheel bearings, and I'd be happy to recommend replacement hub/drums for you.
