Question:
Looking at Equalizer 90-00-1400. I have a 2018 Ram 2500 6.7 long bed. 2.5 receiver. I will be pulling a 2021 Cougar 34TSB GVWR 10500 and TW 1150. Looks like receiver is only 2 on the shank and I also worry about needed drop? Can you point me in the right direction and is the Equalizer I mention the best thing for my setup? Ease of use, WD and sway but easy to back up and turn without adjusting.

We can definitely get you set up correctly, and let's start with the Equal-i-zer itself, and this is absolutely the best overall choice for a weight distribution hitch for a number of different reasons. First is its sway control system, which is exceptional relative to other systems because it uses 4 points of sway control via friction in the spring bars and head unit (compared to 2 points on other systems), which ensures you never have to worry about your trailer swaying.
It also uses clamp-on brackets so you won't have to drill along your trailer frame, and the brackets also makes it much, much easier to install than other systems, particularly ones with chains. You can also easily back up with the system on, like you wanted. Our customers who have used this system regard it very highly, with around 500 reviews (thus far) it has averaged nearly 5 out of 5 stars, as you can see on the product page.
There is one available for you on your truck with a 2-1/2 inch receiver, and the best one for your trailer with a 1,150 lb total tongue weight is the following:
- Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution with 4-Point Sway Control - No Shank # EQ37141ET
Getting one without a shank will allow you to choose the right one based on the rise or drop you need. If you are unsure of what rise or drop you need, I have added a link below to a help article which will guide you through the process, but it is really easy, and only requires a couple measurements.
Once you know that, you can choose from any of the following 2-1/2 inch shanks:
- Maximum 3" Drop or 7" Rise: Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4700
- Maximum 4" Drop or 8" Rise: Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4800
- Maximum 6" Drop or 10" Rise: Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4900
- Maximum 12" Drop or 15" Rise: Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ34FR
I have added a link below to a video review for you to check out as well of the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution with 4-Point Sway Control - No Shank # EQ37141ET.
