Recommended Suspension Enhancement for a 2020 Chevy Silverado 1500

Updated 02/12/2021 | Published 02/09/2021

Question:

I have a 2020 Silverado trailer boss. I’m looking for rear suspension ideas. I pull a enclosed trailer 8.5x20’. About 5-7k pounds. I put summo springs from you guys on it but dnt really like the stiffness. Getting about 2-1/2 “ sag. What would you recommend? Looking at roadmaster active suspension, add a leaf or weight distribution hitch. I’d prefer something that when empty doesn’t affect ride quality. Thanks in advance.

The best option to retain factory unloaded ride quality and less stiffness would be air bags, the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2609 are what I recommend. If you have a Z71 Trail Boss then you'll also need the Lift Spacers for Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2366. I know this was not an option you listed but it's hard to make a case against them with the things you're looking for. They won't affect the unloaded ride quality at all, they can be set to engage right away so there will likely not be any sag, and they can be adjusted so you can get the perfect mix of support/comfort. The SumoSprings would need to be removed to install the air bags.

If not the air bags, I recommend a weight distribution system, the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System part # C17499.
