Recommended Weight Distribution for 5000 lb Travel Trailer
Updated 01/30/2021 | Published 01/28/2021 >
Question:
I am looking for something easy to install and not requiring too many adjustments. Also, something that allows backing up. How much does this hitch system weigh? How much of the weight will be part of the tongue weight? Will this work under the following setup? - TV: 2021 F150 supercrew 4x4 max towing - trailer: Winnebago Micro Minnie 1800BH 5,000 lbs GVWR

The Curt # C17499 TruTrack weight distribution system you'd looked at is designed for trailers with a fully loaded and ready to tow tongue weight ranging from 500-800 lbs, which is right around where your Micro Minnie would be.
In addition to the fully loaded tongue weight of the trailer, the weight of anything carried in the truck bed behind the rear axle should also be considered as tongue weight. Using a scale like the etrailer Tongue Weight Scale for Campers and Utility Trailers - 2,000-lb Capacity # e99044 is an easy way to determine the tongue weight, but there are other methods as shown in the help article I've linked for you.
The TruTrack weighs about 90 lbs minus the shipping packaging, but we don't figure in the weight of the weight distribution system when we're determining the trailer's tongue weight.
If the fully loaded trailer tongue weight is greater than 500 lbs, then the TruTrack would be ideal. Other than the initial setup described in the linked instructions, you shouldn't need to adjust it further. You can back the trailer with the system in place but as with any weight distribution system, if you're backing at a sharp angle where it's possible that the trailer could jackknife it's recommended to remove the spring bars to prevent any damage.
