How to Determine the Weight Capacity of a Dexter Hub and Axle

Have a mobile home axle that has a dexter hub with a 5on5-1/2inch lug pattern. The inner bearing is a 1-3/4inch inside dia. and the outter is 1-1/4. This is a 70s model trailer. Dexter says the replacement hub for that size bearing is a 6 lug hub rated at 5200LBs. Would it be safe to say the axle I have is also rated at 5200LBs per hub 10,400LBs per axle? Given the age of this trailer, I would guess its less than that. The axle appears to be around 3-1/2inch diameter and is approximately 8foot in length. Thanks

Based on your bearing dimensions, I think Dexter meant to say that the replacement hub for you is a 6-lug hub rated for a 5,200 lb axle, not that it is a 5,200 lb hub. Your axle is likely rated for 5,200 lbs, especially since the axle tubing has a 3-1/2 inch diameter. I have not heard of a hub with a 6-lug bolt pattern for a 10,000 lb axle or a 10,000 lb axle with 3-1/2 inch diameter tubing.
The Dexter Hub Assembly, # 42655UC1, that you referenced is likely going to be the hub that you need. This hub uses inner bearing # 25580 with an ID of 1.750 inches and outer bearing # 15123 with an ID of 1.250 inches. If you can see the part numbers stamped on the bearings we can confirm that this is the hub that you will need (see photo). It would also be a good idea to find the inner diameter of the grease seal. This can be measured on the seal or on the spindle.
I always recommend measuring with a precise measuring tool to ensure you get the proper dimension. The photo that I attached shows where you can find the part numbers and where to measure on the spindle to ensure you are getting the correct part.
