235/80-16 Tire Recommendation for 13K 2814GS Attitude Toy Hauler

Updated 01/23/2021 | Published 01/21/2021

Question:

Hi there - I have a 2019 2814GS Attitude Toyhauler and I am looking to get new tires this year. The current tires are a ST235/80R16E. I believe the stamp on the back of the wheels says 3,200 lbs max. I am trying to determine if on this new set of tires if I can put a load range G on the wheels and if it will be safe. Can you please help me better understand the wheel and tire ratings? Thank you!

In a nutshell, you'll want the combined capacity of your tires to meet or exceed the 13000 lb GVWR of your toy hauler.

A load range E tire in 235/80-16 will typically have a 3420 lb capacity per tire when fully inflated. For 4 tires, that would add up to 13680 lbs, which is greater than your GVWR. You could certainly go with a load range G tire, but since most folks don't load up their RV's all the way up to the GVWR, a load range E tire should work perfectly for you.

We offer the Kenda Karrier in 235/80-16 load range E, as part # AM10248 which is what I'd recommend.

If you really want to go up to a load range G, I'd recommend the Taskmaster Contender, part # PRG80235 which has a 4080 lb capacity per tire.

Either tire would work great with the Lion's Head # LH39FR wheel you'd looked at. The 16 x 6 wheels have an 8 on 6-1/2 inch bolt pattern, and can handle up to 4080 lbs apiece. The valve stems and center caps are sold separately. For a valve stem, use # AM20906 and for a center cap, use # LHCS109-SI60C.
