Question:
I have a 24’ gooseneck lowboy trailer. The axle sticker says that it has 7,000 lb axles. But it has 6 lug hubs and wheels. Is this normal? How hard would it be to upgrade to 8 lug hubs? Also one axle is a idler axle. Could I just upgrade to brakes on it? Or would I have to change out the axle?

We have what you need to upgrade your 7,000 lb trailer axles but there are some things that we need to take a look at. Check your ID seal on your spindles. If they require a 2-1/8 inch seal, your wheel size is 16 to 17-1/2 inches and you have a 12 inch brake assembly, then you can use the Dexter Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-219-9UC3. This is for 5,200 to 7,000 lb axles.
Now, for your idler axle, if it is a 5,200, 6,000 or 7,000 lb axle and has #42 spindles, you can use this Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-231-50UC1. I've included a couple videos for you to check out to get a little more information about these parts.
You'll need some wheels too. I like the looks of these wheels # LHAXSO513B with these center caps # LHCS109-SI60C and these lugs # LHLR110. These will fit the new hub assembly I recommended but be sure to not exceed 75 MPH with these tires. I always go with radial tires as they help the ride quality, everyone likes a smooth ride. This will add a nice look to your 24' Lowboy Trailer and compliment your new 2019 GMC Sierra 2500.
