Question:

Good Morning, I own a 2009 dual axle Caravan trailer that has ST 185 r13 tires on it. Im sure of the GVWR but I think its 6000#. I was wondering if it is possible to retrofit my grease bearings with a Cool Hub oil based system. What would I need, and how do I do it?

You can most definitely add oil based hubs to your trailer axles. If you have 3,500 lb axles you can use # XLPROLUBE1980KIT to convert your grease hubs to oil based hubs. With this kit you will need to pop off your old grease hub caps. You will then clean all of the grease off the spindle, hub and bearings. Lastly, install the new oil bath hub cap by tapping it into place and fill with oil.

If you have a larger size axle there is no way to convert the hub for oil based. You will need to replace your hubs with new hubs that are designed for an oil based lube. I recommend # 8-219-9UC3, which is designed to work with 5,200 lb to 7,500 lb axles that have a spindle diameter of 2 1/8".

Another thing to keep in mind is to make sure that your bolt pattern matches the bolt pattern on your trailer if you have to swap the hubs. This will allow you to reuse your wheels and tires.
