Trailer Hitch Receiver Option for Bus With 35-1/2 Inches Between C-Frame and Drop
Updated 11/19/2020 | Published 11/17/2020 >
Question:
I have a 2000 chevy express cutaway schoolbus that Im trying to find a hitch for. I found the chevy express hitch on your website, but the QA section had a person with my exact scenario and the etrailer advisor suggested a different product, one which wouldnt work for my bus. I was just wondering if you guys have dimensions on your products. I think the chevy express van hitch will work, but I cannot tell as there are no dimension sheets i can find. My frame is 35.5 wide between the C beams, and the beams are about 4 inches wide. I also need a 2.5 drop from the top of the hitch mount to where the hitch would actually go, as the bumper on my bus is rather large. Thanks!

While we have a potential option for you, the hitches that fit a 2000 Chevy Express van have mounting holes 40 inches apart, and additionally the manufacturers expressly state they do not fit the cutaway models, so you will need one of the universal options.
What you may be able to use is the Class V Universal Weld-on Receiver Hitch and Brackets with 3" Drop # 15901.
This has brackets which are adjustable and fit frames from a minimum of 18" to a maximum of 44" and the receiver has a 3" drop. This would be the only option as unfortunately there is just not a bolt-on hitch that will fit your Chevy Express cutaway.
